Supper Clubs and Friday Fish Fry

Laura Shields

While staying in the Northwoods, it’s always important to us that our guests have a dining experience that is as unique as your stay here with us.  There are many styles of dining in the areas surrounding Eagle River, but two favorites among our guests are Friday Fish Fry’s and Supper clubs.  A common favorite among locals and guests alike for Friday Fish Fry is Honey Bear.  Honey Bear features Walleye, Shrimp, Baked Fish and North Atlantic Cod for their fish fry.  They have also started to

serve fish fry every night of the week, so our guests can experience this local favorite at any time! Honey Bear is well known for serving an excellent Bloody Mary, which could be considered a meal in itself with pickled goodies packed in and topped off with a cocktail shrimp. Honey Bear is a quaint little bar and restaurant that has a cozy and inviting interior.  Another stop for your next Friday Fish Fry is Pitlik’s Sand Beach Resort and Restaurant.  This cozy bar and restaurant offers the Northwoods vibe with excellent views of Sand Lake.  In the summer months, there is an option to enjoy your meal outside on their deck overlooking the lake.  On Friday’s they feature walleye, cod, and shrimp.  They also serve panfryed Bluegill, which is a very popular and well liked choice.

Supper clubs are a must when looking for an excellent dining experience in the Northwoods.  One family favorite in the St. Germain area is Golden Pines Restaurant and Lounge.  They boast homemade soups, sauces and salad dressings as well as the delicious entrees they serve.  Thursday nights they feature German Night, and Friday is of course Fish Fry.  Prime Rib, Roast Duck and German entrees are house specialties served every night. Golden Pines offers their guests an inviting and cozy interior with a log cabin feel, while also offering fine dining.  Another supper club near St. Germain is McGregor’s Blink Bonnie.  This supper club is well known for their steaks, but their menu offers something for everyone. The steaks come out sizzling and smoking on a large platter, creating an experience that is truly unique to McGregor’s.  Make sure to get here early, as a line starts to form at 3:45.  Close to Sugar Camp, the White Stag Inn offers a dining experience second to none.  The ambiance of White Stag Inn is very unique and welcoming to anyone that dines there.  This supper club also specializes in mouthwatering steak that is hand prepared on a broiler in front of their guests by your chef.  Fresh hot rolls, salad with homemade dressings and a baked potato on the side top off this dining experience.  Don’t forget to add a skewer of mushrooms or side of onions to add even more flavor to your steak.  If you are looking for a genuine supper club experience, make sure to order an old fashioned!
